MadeToTag
axaio MadeToTag is an Adobe InDesign plug-in to properly prepare InDesign documents for export as an accessible, tagged PDF file – fast and reliable. The exported PDF complies with the terms of the PDF/UA-STANDARD, the international PDF standard for universal accessibility – not to be generated with InDesign alone.
PDF/UA is particularly important for organisations that have to comply with legal requirements for accessible content (including BGG, BITV 2.0, EAA/BFSG, EU Mandate 376, Section 508 or WCAG). With the upcoming introduction of the European Accessibility Act (EAA) in June 2025, all other companies will also be obliged to implement digital accessibility in their business processes. The MadeToTag user interface is based on a SEVEN STEP GUIDE that guides the user safely and intuitively through the creation of a tagged PDF without the risk of missing an important step.
Based on tagged PDFs, screen readers for the visually impaired or screen reader software for people with learning disabilities, for example, are provided with the necessary information to enable comprehensive and logic access to the content of a PDF file. Tagged PDFs are therefore a prerequisite for PDF accessibility.

Access to accessible content is particularly important in the public sector, but with the upcoming EAA it will also become a requirement for private companies. Legal regulations such as the Equality of Persons with Disabilities Act (BGG), the Accessibility in Information Technology Ordinance (BITV), the European Accessibility Act and EU Mandate 376s require that people with disabilities can consume content from websites and PDF documents without restrictions.
Media service providers, teachers at colleges and universities and representatives of associations and institutions also see it as their duty to ensure that their content is accessible.
On top of that, PDF tags are an effective method to improve your company’s search engine optimization. The tags in the PDF file follow concepts similar to those found in HTML. Properly used tags place websites higher in the search engine rankings.

The MadeToTag upgrade to a newer Adobe CC version costs € 249 per license.
As an alternative (to the payable upgrade) customers have the option to buy an annual support and maintenance agreement for € 119.80 per license, to obtain upgrades/updates and premium support at no additional cost.
Note on upgrades: Approximately every 12 months, Adobe releases a major InDesign upgrade (InDesign 2022), where previously installed third-party plug-ins no longer work. In this case, MadeToTag customers need to request an upgrade to get new MadeToTag license keys for the respective InDesign version.
Note on the Support and Maintenance Agreement: An alternative to a paid upgrade is the conclusion of an annual Support and Maintenance Agreement (SMA). During the term of the SMA, MadeToTag customers receive premium support and upgrades to newer Adobe InDesign CC versions at no additional cost. The agreement always has to be concluded retrospectively to the purchase date of the license or, if already done so, to a payable upgrade. For customers, who have purchased MadeToTag before January 1, 2018 and would like to conclude a maintenance contract, January 1, 2018 is deemed to be the beginning maintenance date.
Note: The MadeToTag software maintenance agreement can not be purchased through the axaio webshop. You need to send an e-mail to sales@axaio.com or contact your sales partner from whom you purchased MadeToTag.
All prices quoted are net/excluding VAT.
