MadeToTag - fast and reliable preparation of Adobe InDesign files for export to tagged PDF - with important new features

Berlin – August 7, 2013 – axaio software, developer of automation solutions for PDF creation, printing and content correction workflows for the publishing and printing markets, launches update version of MadeToTag: an InDesign plugin for efficient preparation of InDesign documents for workflows where tagged PDF files are required.

Screenshot table structureMadeToTag was introduced as public beta version one and a half years ago. This allowed many users to test the plug-in in their production workflow; much of that feedback has been incorporated in the final version, released July 1st 2013. The today launched new version also introduces a number of important new features:

First of all the new tagging task 'Table Structure' allows users to correctly tag tables in their InDesign files. Rows and columns are logically assigned, table cells are colored in order to display the hierarchy of the cells within the table so that contextual relationships in the table are visually shown.

Another new feature is the export option for document metadata and alternative texts for images. Customers have the option to export and print alternative texts and meta data in a list as a separate InDesign document. This gives a better overview of the texts helping to proofread or correct them.

Why tagged PDFs?

PDF files can not only define the visual appearance of pages in a document, but can also be enhanced by so-called 'tags' that define a semantic structure for the page content. Tagged PDF is a prerequisite for accessibility. Tagged PDFs enable assistive devices, such as screen reader software programs, to offer easy navigation and accessible presentation of content in PDF files.

PDF tags are also an effective method to improve your company's Search Engine Optimization. The tags in the PDF file follow concepts similar to those found in HTML. Properly used tags place websites higher in the search engine rankings.

On top of that, PDF tags are beginning to emerge as a vital part of the business world. Properly tagged PDF files have become a requirement for certain organizations and businesses. Regulations like Section 508 in the USA, Common Look in Canada or the Ordinance on Accessible Information Technology in Germany impose that the public sector, in all industrialized countries, offers all content - web pages as well as PDF documents - in an accessible form.

Produce better tagged PDFs

A very handy list of shortcuts for quick and easy tagging, problem locators to avoid mistakes and previews of collected or not collected articles for a better overview increase the operator's productivity.

Instead of tedious dragging and dropping, you can easily structure your InDesign files via shortcuts. MadeToTag includes a problem locator that identifies and automatically fixes problems you usually encounter within InDesign; such as incorrect hyphens, misplaced hard returns or incorrectly formatted lists. It also locates images that don't have an alternative text, which is required for creating accessible PDFs. Missing alternative texts can be added within seconds.
