Editions Bauer optimizes their workflow with MadeToPrint for PlanSystem4

Berlin – 8 March 2012 - axaio software, developer of solutions for PDF creation, printing and content correction workflows for the publishing and printing markets, is delighted to announce that Editions Bauer has implemented MadeToPrint PlanSystem 4 in their workflow in order to speed up, optimize and standardize all printing and production processes.

MadeToPrint Auto/Server for PlanSystem4 is an Adobe InDesign add-on for automated status based output from wiithin Van Genneps publishing system. Users of PlanSystem4 benefit from the advantages of the MadeToPrint output possibilities, fully integrated in their publishing workflow to guarantee a reliable and effective output procedure. This way, publishers can streamline print and export operations for any publication formats, reduce error levels and have greater functionality and control over any type of output, which saves a lot of time and costs.

Editions Bauer, the French division of Bauer Media Group, is mainly a magazine publisher with a diverse media portfolio of periodicals including TV guides, women’s and youth magazines, special interest magazines as well as numerous one-off special publications.

In 2010, Editions Bauer decided to implement axaio MadeToPrint in their workflow: starting from the InDesign layout, MadeToPrint generates a PDF file that includes comments in a separate layer. Once the layout has been finalised, a batch file is created and after approval, MadeToPrint generates a high-resolution PDF file that is sent to the printer. The high-resolution and low-resolution versions are automatically archived together with the layer comments. All steps are proceeded in one go.

Olivier Gorini, IT manager at Editions Bauer explains: “We were struggling with insufficient and unreliable output procedures inside our workflows. In October 2010 we decided to implement axaio MadeToPrint in order to speed up, optimize and standardize all printing and production processes. Because we were already using Van Genneps publishing system PlanSystem4, we could really benefit from the advantages of the MadeToPrint output possibilities that are fully compatible with and integrated in our existing publishing workflow. With training included, it only took two days to make the new system operational.“

Another very practical MadeToPrint feature gives designers the opportunity to use layers for communicating with the Repro House, which is usually a subcontractor. The designers put their instructions in the form of comments created in an InDesign layer. So, for both parts – documents and comments – only one project is needed. MadeToPrint verifies that all elements of the model are in place, including the high-resolution images. This way the Repro House can be sure to have all needed resources ready for their work.

Editions Bauer has recently implemented new procedures within their MadeToPrint system in order to match the current organization of their editorial department. Based on this new workflow structure the production of the pages is now organized in-house. The need to communicate information with an external service no longer exists; as an internal department is responsible to create print-ready pages. The axaio MadeToPrint system has been adapted to meet these new requirements, resulting in more flexibility, better control and of course saving time. Once the layout has been finalized, various preflighting checks and fixes are done automatically.
